Where it all started
Don Zenisek (Founder/Owner)
At a young age, I learned about construction and woodworking through high school shop classes through an inspirational teacher, and neighbor. I landed what I called my 1st “construction job” at Menard’s, which was then known as Menard’s Cashway Lumber in Waukesha, WI where I worked in several departments, eventually becoming the assistant department manager of flooring. My drive for construction knowledge took me, along with 3 other fellow roommates and co-workers, to build new construction homes.
1980's
1990's
After graduating from the University of Michigan along with one of my 4 older brothers, we began a landscape construction company in Northville, MI. I ran the business side and he did an awesome job of designing and selling the landscapes. (We still work together to this day).
In the early 2000’s the market was on an upswing, so I decided to obtain a real estate license and later a Michigan Builders License. We built our 1st 1900 sq ft. spec home in Grass Lake, MI. As the relationships grew, I contracted with a few fellow entrepreneurs and close friends who ran a successful remodeling company part-time to assist with their successful marketing campaigns. Here I learned not only about marketing, but how to treat the clients home like it was your own and encompass their project vision while building lasting value.
2000's
2010's
This decade was a turbulent one as it was for most people. I went a different direction and broke into the mortgage industry as a loan processor, licensed mortgage originator, and in mortgage compliance – the legalities of it all. During this time, I fully appreciated what home was all about for every homeowner. I had an opportunity to jump back into construction, my true passion, and I spent time working for both a pool company and grading company where I put together an online construction scheduling system that allowed the field superintendents to communicate with the office personal as to the job status of each project, thus saving valuable time, resources, and profit. Ready to branch back on my own in 2018, and embrace my past timeline of knowledge, experience, and entrepreneurship, I founded Dimensional Improvements.
